Sagrada Reset Author Yutaka Kōno's Sayonara no Iikata Nante Shiranai Novel Series Gets Manga Adaptation

5 cm/s manga artist Yukiko Seike launches manga this fall

Sagrada Reset novel author Yutaka Kōno announced on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday their Sayonara no Iikata Nante Shiranai (I Don't Know How to Say Goodbye) novel series will get a manga adaptation by Yukiko Seike (5 Centimeters per Second) on Kodansha's Comic Days platform in fall.

The novels are part of an overall "Kamisaki" series. Kōno first launched the franchise under the title Water & Biscuit no Theme with author Junichi Kawahashi (name romanization not confirmed) and Kadokawa published two volumes in 2017 and 2018 with illustrations by You Shiina. Kōno then relaunched the novel series as a solo author under the title Sayonara no Iikata Nante Shiranai in 2019. Shinchosha published the 11th volume on August 28 with illustrations by Hagu Koshijima.

The novels center on Ayumu Kaya, a second-year high school student. He receives a strange letter that states he has "earned the right to become a resident of Kamisaki." Ayumu has never heard of that town before, but he recognizes the mark on the letter's envelope — the same mark was left behind when his friend Toma disappeared two years earlier. Ayumu visits the designated apartment building to look for clues for what happened to his friend. 

Ai Uzuki launched manga adaptation of Yutaka Kōno's Inakunare, Gunjō (Fragile Light of Pistol Star) novel in Square Enix's G Fantasy magazine in April 2018, and ended it in 2019. The novel debuted in 2014 as the first in Kōno's "Kaidantō" series of novels. The novel inspired a live-action film adaptation that opened in Japan in September 2019. 

Kōno's Sagrada Reset novel series inspired a television anime in 2017, as well as two live-action films in the same year.

Seike's manga adaptation of Makoto Shinkai's 5 Centimeters per Second film ran in Kodansha's Afternoon magazine in 2010. Vertical and later Kodansha USA Publishing has released the manga in English digitally and in print.
