New Opening Theme and Animation Details


The official website for the anime adaptation of Tatsuya Endō's SPY×FAMILY manga has announced some thrilling updates. The rock band SPITZ will perform the opening theme song "Hi o Mamoru" (Protect the Light) for the upcoming third season. This marks the first time SPITZ has created a song specifically for a television anime. The opening sequence, directed by Shingo Natsume, is set to this captivating song. Streaming services in Japan will begin offering the song on October 6. The anime is set to debut on October 4 at 11:00 p.m. on various channels, including TV Tokyo and TV Osaka. Following its initial airing, it will also be available on BS TV Tokyo on October 5. For international fans, Crunchyroll will stream the new season as it airs in Japan, excluding Asia.


Behind the Scenes: New Directors and Staff


The third season will see Yukiko Imai taking the helm as director at Wit Studio and CloverWorks. This change comes as Imai replaces the second season directors Kazuhiro Furuhashi and Takahiro Harada.


In terms of art direction, Yuki Takeuchi and returning episode art director Tomomi Sugimoto will oversee the art setting. Keita Watanabe will serve as the CG director, while Rina Koguchi will be the editor for this season.


Returning Cast and New Music


The new season will feature a mix of returning cast and staff. Notably, Lilas Ikuta will perform the ending theme song "Actor." This addition promises to enhance the overall experience of the series.


Recap of Previous Seasons


The first half of the anime's inaugural season premiered in April 2022. During this time, Crunchyroll streamed the episodes as they aired. The first season's second half debuted in October 2022, also streamed by Crunchyroll. Following this, the anime's second season premiered in October 2023, airing for 12 episodes with the same streaming service.


The SPY×FAMILY Code: White anime film opened in Japan in December 2023. It topped the Japanese box office during its opening weekend, showcasing the franchise's popularity. Crunchyroll is set to release the film in North America in April 2024.


The Story Behind SPY×FAMILY


The manga, published by Viz Media, follows the story of Master spy Twilight. He is the best at going undercover on dangerous missions to create a better world. However, when he receives an impossible assignment to get married and have a child, he finds himself in over his head. Unbeknownst to him, the wife he chooses is an assassin, and the child he adopts is a telepath!


Future Adaptations and Expansions


The SPY×FAMILY franchise continues to grow. It has inspired a stage musical adaptation that ran from March to May 2023, with a second stage musical planned for September to December this year. The ongoing popularity of the series indicates that fans can expect more exciting content in the future.
